Preferred for its hard surface, beauty and durability, the Solid Maple Butcherblock used by BenchProâ„¢ is made from 1-3/4 thick strips of genuine Maple Hardwood. To prevent warpage and splitting, the wood is dried in a low-heat atmosphere for almost one year before it is cut into strips and glued edge to edge. The hardwood strips vary in width so that some strips are single and some strips are double wide. This gives the tops added strength while reducing the possibility of the top splitting along its seams.

Our stock over 500 Maple Butcherblock tops is sufficient to cover most larger orders. We receive unfinished tops in truckload quantities direct from the mill. We first size and sand them, then round the edges, and then finish them in either an oiled or lacquered finish. (While lacquer finished tops have a nicer appearance for offices, the less expensive oiled finish is generally best for production and high use areas, as they can be resurfaced easily.
Most of our competitors use Ash, Alder, or combinations of other less expensive woods depending on the market price. Some don't round the edges or finish the ends.

Note: Although our tops and shelves are very water resistant, they are not recommended for use where standing or running water is present. These type of wet applications require 100% stainless steel tables which are available from lab and kitchen suppliers.

Note: The wider the table, the weaker the table. To counter this, our eight foot wide benches have 66% more steel in the understructure while ten foot wide benches have 207% more steel there. We recommend a Footrest for added stability on 8' and 10' benches.
